[14], xxx, , [27] pages, 13 engraved plates including 5 folding plates and one double page plate and portrait frontispiece, finely bound Eleventh Edition, lightly rubbed spine and corners, slight wear to joints, small damp mark to top of some pages, other pages and plates clean, binding firm, very good condition, full calf, gilt borders, five raised bands, gilt decorated . A galea was a Roman soldier's helmet. Some gladiators, specifically myrmillones, also wore bronze galeae with face masks and decorations, often a fish on its crest.
